The special education team ensures the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). To achieve this, we provide guidance and resources to our state's educators and families so they can engage in the vital work of providing Idaho students with disabilities the opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their potential.
Through collaboration with our education partners, we provide a support-focused framework that allows our educators and families to meaningfully engage in providing students with the quality education that all students deserve.
Idaho Special Education Manual Proposed Specific Learning Disability Criteria
The Idaho Special Education Manual is a part of the Idaho Administrative Procedures Act. This is to enforce and monitor the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in the public school system. The Idaho Special Education Manual has been revised to ensure compliance with the IDEA provisions for the eligibility category of Specific Learning Disability (SLD). Before any policies or procedures can be adopted or changed, the Idaho Department of Education must ensure the opportunity for public participation in the process.
CFR 34 §300.165 Public Participation
Prior to the adoption of any policies and procedures needed to comply with Part B of the Act (including any amendments to those policies and procedures), the State must ensure that there are public hearings, adequate notice of the hearings, and an opportunity for comment available to the general public, including individuals with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities. Before submitting a State plan under this part, a State must comply with the public participation requirements in paragraph (a) of this section and those in 20 U.S.C. 1232d(b)(7).
